Objective

The student
• becomes familiar with the basic skills of music conducting
• understands the conductor's role during a musical performance, can guide specific musical patterns, and demonstrate the necessary hand signals
• can apply what they have learned in basic conducting techniques and lead musically clear and purposeful performances.

Content

• Conducting patterns, tasks for both hands
• Special conducting situations
• Body gestures and body control
• Conducting études and practice of basic conducting techniques

Qualifications

Degree according to the extended syllabus level of basic education in music in Finland or equivalent skills and knowledge.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student
• can conduct an uninterrupted musical performance
• masters the conducting patterns and can convey special situations clearly (e.g., fermatas, upbeats, etc.)
• can interpret pieces in a style-appropriate manner, considering dynamics and other musical elements.
