Objective
The student
• can identify, describe, and produce melodic, harmonic, rhythmic, and small-form phenomena according to their own musical style, both in writing and orally
• has the ability to analyse and highlight the specific features of individual pieces using the provided repertoire
• is capable of independent work.
• is prepared to continue with the Music Theory and Ear Training 3 course.
Content
Music theory
• Harmonic analysis
• Tensions of melodic notes in tonal harmony and non-chord tone analysis
• Harmonisation of small-form pieces
• Scales
Ear training
• Melodies in major and minor keys
• Bass lines and chord inversions
• Introduction to two-part harmony
• Chord progressions with chromaticism in major and minor keys
Qualifications
Completion of Music Theory and Ear Training 1 or equivalent knowledge and skills.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
The student
