Objective

Upon course completion, the student:
- is able to write instrumental or vocal melodies in a given style and context
- is able to utilize the methods of songwriting in their own work
- is able to outline the significance of lyrics in a song performance
- is able to write music in a group and independently
- is able to produce a demo recording in a group and independently.

Content

Seminar work plus individual and group assignments; form, melody, harmony and rhythm of Western popular and jazz music; methods, techniques and exercises for writing lyrics and music; information on working life and copyright.

Qualifications

No prerequisites.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

To pass the course, the student is able to:
- write music and lyrics in a group or independently
- make a demo recording of their music in a group or independently.
