Objective

The students know how to develop their language skills independently during and after the professional studies. They recognize and understand the situational variations of language, especially the differences between formal and informal forms of language. The students understand different types of texts related to social work and can refer to and discuss them. They can produce clear and structured texts on topics related to the social sector and are also able to participate in oral discussions related to their own field. The students’ language skills are at the skill level B2.1 - B2.2 as defined the Common European Reference Framework for languages.

Content

Reviewing the basic grammar structures. Understanding the situational variation of language use, especially the differences between formal and informal language use. Oral communication in social work. Reading, explaining, and preparing texts related to the social field. Self-assessing language and communication skills and developing learning strategies.

Prerequisites

Previous knowledge of the Finnish language approaches the level of B2 as defined by Common European Reference Framework for languages.
Starting level: B1.2 - B2.1
Target level: B2.1 - B2.2
