Objective
The students are familiar with the theoretical foundations and the basic concepts of social pedagogy as well as different orientations and the typical characteristics of the socio-pedagogical approach with diverse populations from early childhood to late adulthood. They are familiar with anti-discriminatory, value-based systems, ethical concepts, and the principles of professional ethics. The students understand the importance of critical thinking. The students master simple Finnish vocabulary and phrases used in socio-pedagogical work.
Content
Socio-pedagogy as a field of science and practice. Roots, development, key concepts and operating principles of social pedagogy. Anti-discriminatory, value-based systems such as eco-social work and social sustainability, introduction to ethical thinking and professional ethics in the field of social services. Simple Finnish vocabulary and phrases used in social pedagogical work with diverse service users.

Objective
Opiskelija tuntee sosiaalipedagogiikan teoreettiset perusteet, peruskäsitteet, alan eri suuntauksia ja sosiaalipedagogisen työotteen tyypillisiä piirteitä eri väestöryhmien kohdalla varhaislapsuudesta myöhäisaikuisuuteen. Opiskelija ymmärtää sosiaalipedagogisen työn syrjimättömyyden periaatteen, arvoihin perustuvat järjestelmät, eettiset peruskäsitteet ja sosiaalialan ammattieettiset periaatteet. Opiskelija ymmärtää kriittisen ajattelun merkityksen. Opiskelija hallitsee yksinkertaista suomen kielen sanastoa ja sosiaalipedagogisessa työssä käytettäviä ilmaisuja.

Sosiaalipedagogiikka tieteen- ja käytännön alana. Sosiaalipedagogiikan juuret, kehitys, keskeiset käsitteet ja toimintaperiaatteet. Syrjimättömyyteen ja arvoihin perustuvat järjestelmät kuten ekososiaalinen sosiaalityö ja sosiaalinen kestävyys, johdanto eettiseen ajatteluun ja sosiaalialan ammattietiikkaan. Yksinkertaista sosiaalipedagogisessa työssä eri asiakasryhmien kanssa käytettävää suomen kielen sanastoa ja ilmaisuja.

- Student will read all assigned articles for class discussion and reflect on them
- No late papers accepted
• Learning Task (6-8 pgs) (50%)
This is a combination work with the Communication and IT Skills course in an effort to reduce the student’s workload so the final written assignment is for both courses.
• Attendance and Participation (20%)
- Students are expected to attend lectures and participate in discussion groups. Failure to do so will affect your final grade.
