Objective
On completion of the course the student will be able to present their skills to an employer, talk about their education and work experience both orally and in writing. Furthermore, the student will be able to acquire information for academic purposes from relevant sources and write technical and academic documents, as well as present and negotiate in a professional manner taking cross-cultural aspects into account. The student will have a realistic perception of their language and communication skills, and takes a positive approach to developing them as part of their professional skills.
Content
The course will cover the following topics, with an emphasis on both oral and written skills:
Technical studies, getting to know the field, writing and delivering a professional presentation, negotiation skills, job search and different types of texts, scientific and technical writing.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student is able to prepare and deliver a presentation related to the professional field and cope with the most common communication situations in the field. The student is able to write documents related to the field, and to receive and give feedback.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student is able to prepare and deliver a good presentation related to the profession and is able to communicate in the field with a fair degree of fluency. The student will be able to write professional documents related to their field. The student will be able to evaluate the success of communication situations and see how they could be further developed.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student is able to prepare and deliver an excellent presentation related to their profession and cope with all communication situations in their field. The student is able to write documents related to their field of work with ease and with the recipient in mind. The student wants to further develop their communication skills and can also support others in various communication situations and in their development.
