Objective
On completion of the course, the student
• is familiar with the application areas of hydraulics and pneumatics
• recognises the usual hydraulic and pneumatic components from the schemes and knows how they work
• is able to design and assemble simple hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

• Basic laws of hydrostatics and hydrodynamics
• Hydraulic power transmission
• Hydraulic components and their operation principles
• Designing hydraulic systems
• Maintenance and service of hydraulic systems
• Production of compressed air and gas laws
• Application areas of pneumatics
• Pneumatic components and their working principles
• Designing pneumatic systems
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student
• recognises the usual hydraulic and pneumatic components
• is able to draw hydraulic scheme according to given requirements
• is familiar with the mandatory requirements for the proper operation of a system
• knows the basics of compressed air production.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student
• is able to evaluate the suitability of hydraulic or pneumatic transmission for a certain application
• recognises the usual hydraulic and pneumatic components used in the hydraulic schemes and knows how they work
• is able to draw simple pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams
• is able to dimension the actuators according to given requirements
• knows the common maintenance points for the smooth operation of the system
• is able to solve a simple sequential pneumatic system.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student
• is able to compare the suitability of different power transmission systems for an application
• understands the interdependence of pressure and volume flow, and is able to do calculations with them
• is able to understand the function of a system and its components on the basis of its hydraulic and pneumatic scheme
• knows the location of the service points and understands the need for regular service and maintenance
• is able to compare different control methods for hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• can solve full pneumatic sequential couplings and apply the solution also to electrical control systems.
• is able to make a simple logic control for a pneumatic system.
