Objective

The student

• understands the significance of civil society in the well-being of individuals and communities
• understands the role of advocacy, volunteering and activism in promoting human rights, equality and sustainable development
• recognises the role of organisations in the provision of social and health services
• is familiar with diverse modes of voluntary and civic activities and understands their relationship to professional work
• is familiar with different concepts of empowerment and emancipation and knows how to promote empowerment
• is capable of acting ethically within the fields of voluntary or civic activities.

• The role of third sector organisations in the social and health sector

• Means of social advocacy

Further information

The course includes 3 ECTS of voluntary or civic work in organisations, projects or other settings. It can also include acting as a mentor for students whose native language is not Finnish, or as a support person.
