Objective
On completion of the course, the student has a deepened understanding of the topics introduced in Basic Math Skills. The student can understand phenomena from a scientific point of view and gains a deeper understanding of a natural scientific phenomenon that underlies a technical application.
Content
1. Basics of derivative and integral in Laboratory Science
2. The concept of probability and basic calculation rules, random variables, and their most common distributions in the context of the laboratory field, confidence intervals
3. Use of Excel or some other appropriate program related to the laboratory science.
4. Quantities, units and unit conversions.
5. Kinematics; Motion in straight line
6. Dynamics; Newton's laws of motion 1 - 3
7. Circular motion
8. Energy and power
9. Pressure
10. Flow of liquids and gases
11. Temperature, thermal expansion and heat transfer
12. Electric current and simple direct current circuits (Ohm's law)

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student recognizes the fundamental concepts and methods of mathematics and physics introduced in the course and can solve simple problems related to those topics.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student can apply the fundamental concepts and methods of mathematics and physics introduced in the course in basic scientific or technical problems.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student can apply the fundamental concepts and methods of mathematics and physics introduced in the course in more advanced scientific or technical problems.

Objective
Opintojakson tavoitteena on syventää Matematiikan perusteet -opintojaksossa opittuja asioita. Opiskelija oppii ymmärtämään miten fysiikan ilmiöt liittyvät laboratorioanalytiikkaan ja osaa hyödyntää matemaattisia menetelmiä laboratorioanalytiikassa.
