Objective

The students cope in everyday and professional communication situations and are able to ask and answer questions in common service situations as well as give basic personal information. The students identify differences in the customs and communication strategies of their mother tongue and the target language. They recognize and use the basic grammatical structures and politeness expressions of the language.
The students are able to identify the different Japanese orthographies and their uses. They can read and write Hiragana and Katakana characters, identify about 30 Kanji characters related to numbers and expressions of time. The students are able to place Japanese cultural phenomena into the correct historical and cultural contexts.

Content

The students practice grammatical structures, pronunciation, characters, and listening comprehension, and participate in communicative exercises in pairs and small groups.
They also familiarize themselves with Japanese customs and cultural history.

Materials

Oppikirjana on Marugoto Nyuumon A1 Katsudoo (valkoinen kansi kirjassa). Sen lisäksi suosittelen hannkimaan Marugoto Nyuumon A1 Rikai (vaaleanpunainen kansi kirjassa).
Nyuumon tarkoittaa Beginner’s level. Kirjat kannattaa tilata nettikaupasta mahdollisimman pian, jotta ne ovat käytettävissä heti opetuksen alkaessa. The student has attained the goals of the course satisfactorily. The student has attained basic command of the Japanese writing systems and is able to use it in simple written communication. The cultural knowledge and the language skills of the student are limited in respect to the contents and scope of the course. The student`s ability to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in various communication situations at work and in free time is limited.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has attained the goals of the course well. The student has good command of the Japanese writing systems and is able to use it in simple written communication well. The cultural knowledge and the language skills of the student are still to be developed, but they are in a good level in respect to the contents and scope of the course. The student is able to apply the acquired knowledge and skills well in various communication situations at work and in free time.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has attained the goals of the course extremely well. The student has excellent command of the Japanese writing systems and is able to use it in simple written communication without any difficulty. The cultural knowledge and the language skills of the student are in an excellent level in respect to the contents and scope of the course. The student has excellent ability to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in various communication situations at work and in free time.

No pre-requisite studies.
