Objective

Students acquire knowledge about basic robotics (mechanics, electronics and programming). They should be able to understand the inner workings of a robotic system and basic pattern recognition.

Content

Manually operated robotic arms delivered as kits should be assembled and thereafter complemented with µC-based controllers. This includes complete rewiring of the actuators to drive motors electronically as well mounting of sensors (e.g. rotary encoders, etc.) and connection of all parts to the µC-Board. Programming of the µC should include basic routines for decoding sensor signals and driving the actuators, as well as a basic decoder for external commands to the robot. Additionally, cameras and pattern recognition should be applied to create a safety area that the robot and a human worker can use jointly.

Evaluation scale

0-5

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students actively work on the project at least 70% of the course time, take part in a short final presentation

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students actively work on the project at least 70% of the course time, take part in a short final presentation, actively present and explain the work already done.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students actively work on the project at least 70% of the course time, take part in a short final presentation, actively present and explain the work already done. They can answer additional questions concerning the foundations of their work and find solutions to problems on their own.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Students actively work on the project at least 70% of the course time, take part in a short final presentation

Qualifications

Students should have basic knowledge about electronics, sensors, actuators and programming.
