Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student
• classifies the most commonly used textile fibres in clothing and describe the properties of fibres in each category
• evaluates how the choice of fibre affects the properties, care, and cost of the final product
• uses various methods to identify fibres
• names different types of yarns and their uses, and interpret yarn labels
• analyses and compares the environmental impacts of the production of the most commonly used fibres.

• Production, usage, care properties, and cost of the most commonly used textile fibres in clothing
• Different types of yarns used in clothing, their properties, uses, and labelling methods
• Legislation regarding the declaration of fibre content
• Environmental impacts of fibre and yarn production
• Professional English terminology related to fibres and yarns

Students can classify the main textile fibres, describe their properties and uses at a general level, and partially evaluate the impact of fibre selection on the final product's properties. They can name some types of yarns and their uses. Additionally, they recognise the environmental impacts of fibres and can name some key production challenges. Students identify the most important English terms related to the subject.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students can classify textile fibres, accurately describe their properties, and reasonably evaluate how fibre selection affects the final product's properties. They can name different types of yarns, their uses, and interpret yarn labels. Additionally, they can analyse and compare the key environmental impacts of fibre production. Students recognise and remember the most important English terms related to the subject.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students can thoroughly classify textile fibres, including subcategories. They can accurately describe their properties and evaluate their suitability for various uses from multiple perspectives. Students can analyse and classify different types of yarns and their uses, as well as interpret yarn labels. Additionally, they can critically compare the environmental impacts of fibre production from various perspectives. Students can apply the professional English terminology of the field.
