Learning outcomes
Students
- can use their knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, applied pharmacology and administration of pharmacotherapy to plan, implement and evaluate safe pharmacotherapy of different client/patient groups
- are able to plan, implement and evaluate peripheric and central intravenous infusion, nutritional and pharmacotherapeutic care safely
- are able to provide patient education to clients and patients and their significant others in pharmacotherapy and intravenous infusion
- can implement safe blood transfusion
- are aware of the potentially threatening situations and their reporting

- nurse’s role, tasks and responsibility regarding intravenous infusion and pharmacotherapeutic care
- pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics and toxicology
- different pharmacons
- pharmacotherapeutic effects, side effects and synergism, mechanisms of synergism
- planning, implementing, evaluating and developing the effectiveness of safe peripheric and central intravenous infusion, nutritional and pharmacotherapeutic care
- basics of intravenous infusion and blood transfusion
- recognition, prevention and dealing with medication errors
- multiprofessional cooperation on pharmacotherapy
- patient safety reporting as part of quality control
- patient education on intravenous infusion and pharmacotherapy

Basic knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology.

Course and exam material:
English taught course: all materials used during the course and exam reading will be confirmed at the beginning of the course
All assignments and materials are under Copyright Act (404/61) and a teacher has the copyright. Assignments and materials are not allowed to be distributed or used in any other way. Distributing materials are only allowed if the teacher grants the permit.

Exam dates and retake possibilities
The final exam of the course is done in exam-room. The exam can be found in the Exam system using the course identifier. Participation in the wrong exam will result in the test being invalidated.
Exam Period:
You are allowed two retakes during the designated retake periods. After this, the course must be retaken. The course grade can be improved once during the first retake exam. The retaken exam grade cannot be improved. The retake exams will be held as Exam tests in the exam room.

The course consists of 135 hours of which the amount contact hours will be 27 h (clinical laboratory teaching and simulation, preparing for exam, web-based materials and learning assignments)

Further information for students
Students must confirm their attendance for a course implementation by being present when teaching begins. Students who are unable to attend the first teaching session due to illness may also confirm their attendance by informing the lecturer of this in advance.
Clinical labs and simulations are compulsory and it is required that the student attends the teaching wearing nursing uniform and appropriate footwear. All students must follow the taught basic aseptic guidelines.

Assessment methods and criteria
Exam F-5, Pharmacotherapy and pharmacology exams will form a joint exam, which is evaluated as whole. Retake exams will be evaluated similarly to the initial exam.
