Objective

On completion of the course the student:
• understands the basics of project management and takes them into consideration when planning a project
• recognises the risks related to construction projects
• can explain the meaning of construction for society, list the different branches of construction and explain their shares in the industry
• can list the parties and the stages of a construction project
• can explain the main contents of each stage and the roles of the user, planner, contractor, public authority, machine and equipment supplier.

• Cost management, emphasis on contract cost estimation

Location and time

The course (lectures, exam, and retake exams) will be conducted between January 16, 2025, and May 22, 2025, at the Myllypuro Campus. The lecture schedule can be found in the timetable using the implementation code.

Teaching methods

The lectures will be conducted as in-person teaching in the class room. A Zoom workplace is available, but its functionality cannot be guaranteed. Attendance at the lectures is not mandatory, but participation in in-person teaching is recommended. The course includes mandatory assignments that must be successfully completed to pass the course. Completing these without attending in-person sessions is challenging. The course grade will be based on an exam. The course platform is Metropolia Oma.

The exam will be held in a classroom.
Exam: April 24, 2025, from 8:00 to 10:30.
First retake: May 8, 2025, from 8:00 to 10:30.
Second retake: May 22, 2025, from 8:00 to 10:30.

Assessment methods and criteria

Exam. Exercises graded as pass/fail. Completing the course requires the successful completion of all exercises, passing the exam, and active participation in lectures. Exercises must be completed and submitted by the deadlines announced during the course. Submitting exercises after the course has ended is not possible.
