Objective

After completing the course, the students are able to:
• recognize the importance of layered clothing in maintaining thermal balance and improving the performance.
• take into account the requirements of layered clothing in product development.
• identify the functional needs of the target group.
• use different patterning methods and software suitable for product development.
• analyze and combine different clothing materials in a way that is beneficial to layered clothing.
• take into account the looseness related to layered clothing and the requirements of different materials in pattern making.
• perceive the supply network of materials and accessories in Finland and globally.
• justify and decide on the use of appropriate materials and accessories.
• make patterns and instructions for challenging functional layered clothing in standard size and grade them.
• understand the importance of industrial working methods in producing high-quality counter samples.
• comment on the quality and fit of the counter samples and analyze the possible development needs of the style and instructions from the manufacturing point of view.

Content

Getting to know functional clothing with special consideration for layered clothing. Patterning different layered styles. Fixing the fit of clothing by developing patterns. Documenting production instructions by using different software. Making or manufacturing a counter sample for the evaluation of expert teams. Differentiation and reporting in the instructions of the required material suppliers for the counter sample. Instructions and measurement tables for the garment. The importance of a high-quality counter sample as part of quality control in manufacture.
