Objective

The student will be familiar with business planning to be able to plan his/her business activities and/or to be able to act as a member of business entity in a goal-oriented way.
The student will be able to act appropriately in both working life and entrepreneurship-related communication situations. The student is able to produce different types of written material for different media. The student is able to communicate as a specialist in different situation and environments related to research and development. The student is able to acquire information, analyze and use information in relevant manner. The student knows the good practice of written and oral communication and is able to apply and respect them accordingly. The student is able to use his/her language and communication skills for continuing development of his/her professional thinking and expertise.

Content

Business, entrepreneurship, stakeholders, private companies as a part of national economy. Starting-point analysis, business planning and ideas. Goals, strategic and operational planning, operational policies, budget planning. Business culture and values. Different form of business in Finland.
Written professional text types.
Communication skills; clients, group working and negotiation.
Presentation skills, argumentation and feed-back.
Communication in different project situation and in research and development environments.
Communication planning and evaluation.
Good digital communication practice.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student knows business planning and different forms of companies in Finland. The student is able to understand the basic concepts of the course theme and knows related theory on a basic level.
The student is able to identify the elements of the communication process and is able to produce simple written texts of his/her own professional field and participate in interactive situations. The student has difficulties in data acquisition and in critical processing of acquired information.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student knows comprehensively business planning and different forms of companies in Finland in order to start planning a business of his/her own or to act as member of a business entity in a goal-oriented way. The student understands the basic theory and concept related to business. The student shows good knowledge of theoretical and applied information.

The student is able to evaluate his/her own communication skills and understands personal development areas. The student is able to communicate coherently and with goal-oriented way in professional communication situations, knows the significance of internal and external communication of his/her own field.
As a specialist the student communicates logically, comprehensibly and engagingly and addresses his/her message taking into consideration the recipient and the situation. The student is able to justify his/her views.
The student is able to acquire relevant information and use it critically. The student is able to produce goal-oriented written, oral or visual presentation.

The student is able to develop his/her Finnish language and communication skills as a part of her/his expertise and is able to communicate in a meaningful, creative and personal way. The student argues her/his point with skill and shows, shares and develops her/his expertise in the community.

The student retrieves information independently and competently in order to produce new knowledge or new perspectives. The student uses language creatively and according to field practices.
