Objective

On completion of the course the student
- can explain the most important definitions of renovation, the process flow for repair work, and the difference between renovation and constructing a new building
- can determine condition assessment methods used during the repair process and schedule condition assessments
- can list reasons to repair buildings
- can list defects of different building materials (wood, concrete, rendering, brick) and analyse reasons for them
- can list causes for moisture and mould damage in structures and methods of investigating such damages
- can list typical indoor air problems and their causes as well as methods for investigating them
- can name different condition assessment methods for concrete, wood, rendered and brick structures
- can order condition assessments
- knows special characteristics and risks related to a renovation site
- knows how to select suitable renovation methods for typical sites
- can interpret renovation plans
- can plan and direct work at the renovation site.

- list a variety of repair works of buildings and their proportion of all construction activity currently and in the future
- list defects of different building materials (wood, concrete, rendering, brick)
- list causes for moisture and mould damage in structures and methods of investigating such damages
- list typical indoor air problems and their causes as well as methods for investigating them
- name different condition assessment methods for concrete, wood, rendered and brick structures
- order condition assessments for typical situations
- list special characteristics and risks related to a renovation site
