Objective

The student knows the fundamentals of sound synthesis and can describe the operating principles of synthesizers. The student knows how to design and produce desired sounds and effects in a digital audio workstation environment. The student can describe the basic principles of sound sampling, knows how to use sound samplers and is capable of building their own sampling instruments. The student is able to use sound synthesis and sampling in a creative manner in their own music making.

Content

The fundamentals of sound synthesis. Synthesizers and their operating principles. Fundamentals of sound sampling. The use and programming of digital audio workstations, virtual instruments, sound samplers, plug-ins, and controllers in creative music making.
