Learning outcomes

The student is familiar with the dimensions of managerial behaviour and is able to improve him/herself as a supervisor and manager. S/he understands different characteristics of organizational behaviour and how a supervisor’s personal conduct affects the work community, its teams and individuals. The student is able to develop different work communities and to create a supportive work atmosphere. The student is able to utilize supervisor and management communication to build a good company culture.

• Recognizing personal strengths and utilizing them in management work

• Developing operational culture as part of managerial work
• Supervisor communication as a whole

Completed Higher Education Degree

Teaching methods

The course will be implemented online in the spring 2021. Contact lessons according to the schedule on Monday evenings.

Student workload

The students' time used for the studies on the 5 cr implementation is divided as follows:

Contact teaching, discussions and working in groups 35 hours
Literature and readings 50 hours
Writing the learning assignment 50 hours

Opiskelija hallitsee kiitettävästi esimiestyöhön ja esimiesviestintään liittyvää teoriaa ja osaa soveltaa sitä monipuolisesti ja perustellusti omaan työhönsä. Opiskelija pystyy luomaan käsiteltävästä teemasta loogisen kokonaisuuden. Opiskelija pystyy reflektoimaan omaa osaamistaan syvällisesti ja eri näkökulmista.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient performance: has completed basic requirements to pass the course and has made an attempt to apply and articulate concepts and information both verbally and in writing but has not made enough effort overall. The student has demonstrated little effort, interest and motivation for individual or team activities / assignments and the output is rather weak.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good overall performance: can apply and articulate concepts and information well both verbally and in writing, certain areas of individual or team output require further attention; shows appropriate level of interest and motivation in individual and team activities. Good presentation delivery and analysis.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent performance in all elements of the course: shows interest and motivation in individual and team activities and assignments, fully applies and clearly articulates concepts and information both verbally and in writing. The student is able to support his/her argument with references to the recommended reading and lecture content. Excellent presentation delivery and analysis.
