Objective

On completion of the course, the student will be able to assess and develop his/her expertise from diverse perspectives. The student will be able build his/her professional profile in a goal-oriented manner and will know how to evaluate and describe his/her strengths as an expert in his/her professional field. He/she will understand the significance of continuous learning for career development and will be able to set goals for deepening his/her expertise and share it. He/she will identify the skills needs and relevant factors impacting his/her professional field and its future. The student will master the channels and practices linked to job search and will be able to advance his/her employability in Finland.

Further information

This course is targeted at international degree students in Metropolia's master's programmes and students of Metropolia open UAS. Some sessions and assignments are together with bachelor's students. If there are enough suitable candidates, parts of the sessions will be provided with Finnish language support in a separate small group. The course is piloted with project funding.

The student is able to
- identify key features of his/her professional competences
- highlight some of his/her strongest assets related to his/her international background
- understand the significance of transferable skills in the future of work and in his/her professional field
- identify the key competences provided by the degree and can determine some goals for his/her professional development during the studies
- share his/her professional experiences
- name some of the key actors, sources of information and other factors affecting his/her professional field and apply these for information search
- draft suitable key documents for job search and identify key features of Finnish work environments
- utilise to some extent the knowledge and competences acquired during the course in his/her collaboration with employers and can relate some of the discussed topics to his/her professional experiences

The student is able to

- highlight his/her strongest assets as an international talent taking into consideration the skills needs in the Finnish labour market and in the future
- extensively analyse the significance of transferable skills in the future of work and in his/her professional field and can identify ways to develop these in himself/herself
- identify the potential competences provided by the degree and can determine varied and tangible goals for his/her professional development during the studies and after graduation
- actively share his/her professional expertise, experiences and views
- name the relevant actors, sources of information and other factors affecting his/her professional field and estimate their influence on his/her own career plans
- draft competitive job applications for suitable channels and identify and actively take measures to facilitate their employability

Assessment methods and criteria

Completing all learning assignments with a Pass grade

Qualifications

Ongoing master's studies or previous master's level degree and two years of field-related work experience.
