Objective

Goals of the study course, a student´s core competencies: The student
- Recognises the most common timber structures and their properties
- Recognises the qualities and properties of wood and timber as material
- Perceives and understands the central timber structure systems
- Recognises the most elementary wooden special structures
- Recognises the special characteristics of timber buildings
- Understands the process how timber buildings are accomplished in practise
- Perceives the role of pre-manufactured elements in timber building
- Recognises the central mounting operations and worksite functions in timber building

Content

The study course introduces timber structures, their special properties, timber in general as a building material, and timber structure systems related to timber building, as well as the practical building process utilizing pre-manufactured elements and requirements of mounting and worksite conditions. The study course should be carried out in a self-conducted manner in the Moodle web-based platform, but in the very order the supervisors have designed its study path. The course contains promotion videos, expert statements, written articles or texts plus exercises and drills for each independent part.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student has understood the information related to the course and answered the tasks correctly at least 40%.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has mastered the knowledge related to the course and has answered the tasks correctly at least 66%.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has internalized the information related to the course and answered the tasks 90% correctly.
