Objective
Students know the television program genres and the main story types and concepts of nonfiction television programs. Students know the fundamentals of television storytelling and dramaturgy and they know how apply them in various nonfiction television programs.
Students know how do research for news events, observe societal phenomena and convert their observations into ideas and topics for television programs. Students are able to write and produce a television program segment.
Students are well versed in the collaborative process of concept development and screenwriting. Students know the job descriptions of a journalist, producer and/or television director as well as other relevant positions and they are able to work in various capacities in television program production.
Students are able to create a concept and write a script for a multi-segment television program. They know how to pitch a program concept and draw up a pitch package and a production plan. Students know how to produce various versions of the concept for different media platforms and use social media as part of the television program concept.
Students know the fundamentals of studio techniques, camera operation, studio sound recording, video expression and lighting. Students comprehend the entire multi-camera production process. Students are capable of working together in one or more capacities in a multi-camera production. Students are able to prepare a directing plan, shot list and a rundown for a television program. Students know the professional equipment and processes and they are able to compose and transmit a recorded or live television broadcast.
Students know the fundamentals of oral communication and television presenting and they are able to express themselves in a clear and interesting way. Students know a variety of interviewing techniques and are able to use them.
Students know the main principles of project management and they are able to organize their own work as well as the work of a team. Students are able to analyze and assess entities and give feedback on them.
