Objective

Students know how to find out patient’s background information and anamnesis as well as report the patient case to their clinical practice supervisor, peer students and other health care professionals concisely. They can analyse patient’s symptoms, choose and implement tests for differential diagnosis as well as demonstrate clinical reasoning. Students are capable of independent decision-making and can make an osteopathic diagnosis independently while being aware of their limits of competence.
Students are capable of creative problem solving and development of work methods. They can assess their work and competence as well as change the treatment plan if so required and make decisions concerning treatment in unexpected situations. Students are capable of acquiring, handling and assessing knowledge related to their work in a critical way. They can act as part of the multiprofessional team. Students are able to create personal connections in the work environment and act as experts of their field in these networks. They embrace multicultural cooperation.
Symptoms and signs 2: 1 cr
Students recall previously learned medical subjects and know how to combine them into a holistic differential diagnosis serving clinical practice. They assess patients’ general status appropriately and effectively as part of patients’ examination and follow-up. Students identify the risky ’red flag’ symptoms and are able to refer their clients to further treatment if necessary.

Content

Interview, observation and examination routines. Differential diagnosis. Osteopathic diagnosis and treatment. Education on therapeutic exercises. External clinical practice: Physiatric ward, Osteopath’s clinic or rehabilitation centers.
Symptoms and signs 2: 1 cr
Examination of patient’s general state of health. Respiratory, vascular, lymph node, reproductive organ and intestine symptoms calling for osteopath’s action.

Students master professional concepts, and they justify their choices using the comprehensive knowledge base, based on the client’s needs. Students assess systematically the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.
Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment as well as apply working methods appropriately and safely.
Students work according to professional ethics as well as commit themselves to the group, enhancing its functioning.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students master professional concepts and make choices together with the client using the comprehensive knowledge base. They also assess and develop their own functioning systematically.
Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment. They also apply working methods flexibly and safely.
Students work according to professional ethics considering the characteristics of various situations, and in their work they commit themselves to the code of professional conduct.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students master professional concepts and make choices together with the client using the comprehensive knowledge base, in changing environments. They also assess their own functioning and produce knowledge to develop their operating environment.
Students act independently and professionally and develop their working and operating environments together with other actors.
Students work according to professional ethics considering the characteristics of complex and unpredictable situations. Their work develops and renews professional procedures and practices.
