Objective

After completing this course, the student will be familiar with cultural activities, actors and future development trends in the third sector. The student will be familiar with the main actors and principles of activity in the third sector of culture in his/her own area of specialization. The student will have an understanding of the significance of the third sector, the extent of its activities and opportunities for future development. The student will be familiar with the life-span of association activities: the founding of an association, the organization of activities in practice and the limitations and the legislation regarding association activities.

- Ideological basis of cultural associations
- Finnish associations involved in cultural management
- The work of international organizations
- The significance of voluntary work
- The founding of an association
- The work of the National Board of Patents and Registration of Finland
- Legislation and taxation applying to associations
- Meeting procedures in associations and the financial management of associations
- Participatory citizenship

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student knows the key actors in the third sector especially in his/her specialisation area of culture and knows how to found an association and knows the basic principles in organizing activities in an association.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student will be familiar with cultural activities of the third sector, the extent of its activities and opportunities for future development. The student will be familiar with the life-span of association activities: the founding of an association, the organization of activities in practic and the legislation regarding association activities.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student knows the key actors in the third sector especially in his/her specialisation area of culture. The student understands his/her own role as a developer of the field of culture. The student is familiar with the basics of association-based work and recognizes its possibilities and limitations.
