Objective

Students apply a family- and resource-oriented approach to support the development of motherhood, fatherhood and parenthood. They are able to conduct an interview supporting early interaction for the new or expecting mother/family and apply methods supporting parenthood to their work with families. Students can evaluate parent’s interaction with their babies/children and identify situations and families, which could jeopardize the child’s sound psychosocial development. They are able to apply health promotion methods flexibly to public health nursing of different families.

Students are able to explain the course of normal pregnancy and the growth and development of a healthy child as well as individual differences in them. They can carry out follow-up and evaluation throughout the course of pregnancy as well as identify abnormalities in it. Students are capable of implementing public health nursing during the postpartum period and provide breastfeeding counselling. They can carry out follow-up and evaluation of the growth and development of a healthy child as well as immunise children. Students are able to provide education promoting sexual health. They find justified solutions in situations requiring decision-making and can consult experts when needed. Students know how to refer maternity clinic and child welfare clinic clients to further treatment in abnormal situations. They are able to act as team members in multiprofessional groups and networks.

apply the principles of early interaction to his/her actions and conduct an interview of early interaction
apply the methods of health promotion in a client- and family-oriented way
explain the course of normal pregnancy, implement follow-up and evaluation during the course of pregnancy as well as identify the features of abnormal pregnancy
explain the progress of growth and development of a healthy child as well as identify the individual differences in it
carry out health examinations of children of different ages in a client-oriented way and administer vaccinations according to the immunisation programme
educate clients to promote their health and sexual health
evaluate the client’s state of health and wellbeing as well as make independent decisions and consult experts if necessary
refer clients of maternity clinics and child welfare clinics to further treatment in abnormal situations
identify the need for multiprofessional cooperation and networks and work as a member of the multiprofessional teams and networks
