Objective

On completion of the course the student will be able to
- Describe how the load, strain, transformation and transitions of a bar structure are interrelated
- Describe the dimensioning of a beam taking only the essentials into account
- Describe the buckling phenomenon and factors affecting it
- Solve strains, transformations and transitions of a concentrically drawn and compressed bar
- Solve tensile and compression stress in a bended beam
- Solve the buckling force of a concentrically compressed bar
- Size a simple beam for bending
- Size a concentrically compressed bar
