Objective
On completion of the course the student will have an understanding of language register, academic writing in general, the structure and requirements of an academic paper, and the documentation standards on referencing source material.

On completion of the course the student will be able to: use formal and informal English appropriately and communicate technical concepts both orally and in writing, locate relevant source material, use and document source material in the text and compile a reference list following universal standards; use tables and figures in formal papers and oral presentations, and use mathematical expressions in the text appropriately; give formal oral presentations and give and receive feedback on individual presentations.

Appropriate use of formal and informal style and language (language register); academic writing conventions; documentation and referencing in academic papers and advanced technical documents: universal standards set on academic papers; structure of an academic paper; mathematical expressions in texts; use of tables and figures in a formal paper and oral presentation; formal oral and written presentations

Effective technical communication on even specific and complex subject matters, both orally and in writing; persuasive language usage; dealing with difficult questions; argumentation; audience recognition in written and oral communication; improving the style and quality of one?s oral and written presentations, revising one?s own texts.
