Descriptions
Construction Architecture
The curriculum of the degree programme for Construction Architecture is skills-based. The skills are based on the competencies of the construction architect education. The curriculum emphasizes especially design skills. The courses are constructed so that supporting studies, such as mathematics, physics and chemistry, are included in professional courses.
The curriculum comprises supportive studies, professional studies, project studies, specialization studies, optional studies, elective studies, work placement and a Bachelor’s thesis.
Each academic year has its own theme and subject on which the courses are based. The construction architect's professional growth in the curriculum progresses through the steps novice, beginner and well-acquainted up to the beginning of expertise.
The curriculum includes three project courses each academic year in which the student has a strong role as an investigative learner.
Optional studies
The student may specialize in building design, renovation or management and economy of a building project.
The student is able to choose elective studies from the courses offered in the degree programme for construction architects or from the general elective studies basket in Metropolia.
International activities
The student has an opportunity to apply to international exchange programs or perform an internship abroad.
Working life cooperation
Courses include cooperation with design offices, construction companies, construction industry and public administration.
The project studies include an Innovation Project (10 credits) which is carried out with the working life and students from different professional fields.
Teaching language of some courses may be English.
Development
Curricula in Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences are competence-based.
Bachelor in Architecture curriculum is based on the competences made by the national cooperation with Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Oulu University of Applied Sciences and Savonia University of Applied Sciences.
Bachelor in Architecture curriculum is presented to the representatives of the working life.
Further information
This curriculum follows mainly the previous TXR20S1 curriculum.
In the curriculum of Construction Architecture, 10 ects cr are reserved for optional studies.
