Objective

Development psychology
The student understands the development of the person as a holistic, individual process and recognises the different elements of this development, the various life stages, developmental tasks and possible developmental crises of a person. They can evaluate the significance of crises and abnormal development for the client’s overall situation using various psychological views of human nature.

Basics of psychology in a therapeutic encounter
The student can define psychological phenomena and consider the basic principles of a therapeutic work approach. The student recognises the impact of their own personality in interaction situations. The student is capable of engaging in a motivating interview and interaction. The student is capable of ethical reflection when interacting with clients. The student learns to recognise the limits of their own professional skills and resources.

Clinical psychology
The student understands the modern view of mental health and psychological functional capacity and understands the importance of psychological resources for a person’s wellbeing and ability to adapt. The student recognises the signs of a traumatic crisis and psychological symptoms in a client, can adapt support measures to the client’s needs in traumatic situations and can refer the client to mental health services, if necessary. The student possesses the basic skills for having good interaction with a client experiencing psychological and psychosomatic symptoms.

Mental health first aid
Crisis psychology and trauma; acute, moderate or severe mental health symptoms; referral to mental health services

Supporting mental health through osteopathic practice
The student understands the importance of therapeutic interaction in osteopathic practice. The student understands the importance of the connection between body and mind from a psychological point of view in osteopathic practice.
The student takes the factors impacting mental health into account in osteopathic practice. The student can combine osteopathic approaches to the client’s treatment plan in an appropriate way, and knows how to collaborate with the client to find instructions that support the client’s health.

Cognitive development; development of attachment relations, emotions, personality and identity; and psychosexual development
Developmental tasks over the course of a person’s life and minority stress
Protective and risk factors in development
Psychological competence in good interaction
Building a therapeutic care relationship
Motivating interaction, own personality, ethics and coping in care work
Mental health, traumatic crises and psychological resources
Client with psychological symptoms: recognising the most common mental health disorders, pre-emptive mental health work and referral to treatment
Psychosomatics: connection between body and mind, differential diagnostics of somatic and psychological pain and somatoform symptoms
