Water resources engineering 3 - Water management systems TX00CN40-3002 26.08.2019-22.12.2019 5 credits(TXO17S1, ...)+-
Learning outcomes of the course
The aim of the course is to provide a sound understanding of water resources management. After the course the student understand principles of water resource engineering including surface and groundwater resources. Learn about the topics; hydrologic cycle and its components, distribution of earth’s water resources, distribution of fresh water on earth, rainfall distribution, river basins. The student knows problems of low flows, flooding and their mitigation using reservoirs; uncertainties in water resources management.
Course contents
Surface and groundwater resources, concepts for planning water resources, hydrologic cycle, irrigation, water systems, dams, management of water resources, drought and flood management. Knowledge on water retention and flow in soils, hydropower, and agricultural use as well as basic knowlegde about dams.
Assessment criteria
Satisfactory
To define or describe the subject matter related to the concepts and phenomena qualitatively and calculate the associated basic quantitative comparisons and calculations
Good
The student is able to apply, calculate, change and choose the concepts related to the matter and phenomena qualitatively and calculate the basic quantitative calculations as well as to complete and produce the necessary information for the calculations
Excellent
The students is able to categorize, collect, combine and generalize the concepts related to the matter and phenomena qualitatively and calculate the basic quantitative calculations as well as derive and rearrange given basic information.
