Objective

Students will recognise and be able to justify the starting points for their bachelor’s thesis from the perspective of developing their own professional field. They will be capable of effectively cooperating in various work networks and professionally discussing with industry representatives, instructors and students. Students will able to prepare a viable plan for their final project based on critical research and creative solutions. They will know how to identify and solve work-related ethical issues. Students will use English research resources to plan for their bachelor’s thesis.

Content

- Identifying current development needs in the field
- Partnership negotiations with industry representatives, a networking work approach, peer support
- Understanding the process of the bachelor’s thesis
- Information retrieval in English and Finnish, critical evaluation of sources
- Justification of chosen working methods and practices
- Workshops in methodology, academic writing and information gathering
- Communication in R&D
- Drawing up a proposal and a viable working plan; their presentation at a seminar
- Applying for research permission and drawing up the agreement for the bachelor’s thesis

Ohjeistamme, miten voitte aloittaa ennakkoon kirjallisuuskatsauksen kirjottamista opinnäytetyönnne teemasta, taustasta ja kohderyhmästä.
Opintojaksototeutus on tarkoitettu ensisjaisesti SXH17K1 ryhmän opiskelijoille, jotka aloittavat opinnäytetyöprosessin (opinnäytetyön kirjoittamisen).

Opinnäytetyön seminaarityöskentely on mahdollista suorittaa kokonaan kevään aikana, niin että opinnäytetyö on mahdollista palauttaa 7.11. Tähän ryhmään on mahdollista ottaa mukaan 8 opinnäytetyön tekijät. Tarkemmat ohjeet intensiiviryhmään hakemisesta ilmoitetaan myöhemmin)

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Student is able to:
- Apply professional knowledge in the field appropriately
- Use concepts and information in his field systematically
- Argue a course of action on the basis of research information and findings
- Find information and argue the use of his sources
- Work in various duties depending on the assignment
- Define the principles of and requirements for his actions
- Show that he has achieved the targets for core competence
- Find out the safety instructions concerning a word assignments and to act accordingly
- Act according to the relevant professional ethical principles
- Plan and guide the operation of multidisciplinary groups
- Communicate about professional issues

Assessment methods and criteria

To get a passing grade (3 credits) for English, students are required to
*attend and actively participate in contact sessions
*do the required homework assignments for each class
*submit a final written assignment in due time (Article summary on a research article) and
*give an oral presentation on the article in class
