Objective

Students are aware of children’s different developmental phases and the stages of human development in general. They are able to describe the most common deviations of the lower limbs, positions and functions as well as their assessment and primary methods of treatment in various age groups. Students are familiar with the challenges presented to podiatry by various age groups. They are capable of choosing suitable methods of treatment to support the development and growth as well as functional capacity of various age groups.

Students know how to apply the principles of making foot orthoses to meet the individual needs of the clients. Students identify the most common materials for making foot orthoses and know how to choose the appropriate material for their fabrication. They are capable of safe working in workshops. Students are familiar with the various orthotic techniques and are aware of their indications for use. They are able to choose correct orthose method for different clients. They know the basics of CAD-CAM technique in foot orthose manufacturing. Students are also familiar with the special requirements of various client groups for orthotic therapy of the foot. They can assess the effectiveness of foot orthoses and the functionality of the materials used. Students perceive orthotic therapy as part of podiatry and client service.

Students are able to combine previously studied medical subjects into a differential diagnostic whole catering for practical work. Students develop their skills in assessing clients’ general condition as part of examining patients and monitoring their treatment. Students are able to identify dangerous ‘red flag’ symptoms and refer clients for further treatment.
