Descriptions

The Metropolia University of Applied Sciences’ health care and nursing student’s know-how is described according to the NQF, National Qualifications Framework. In addition, the Rectors' Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences’ national competence recommendations are taken into consideration.
The master programs include Development and Leadership in Health Care and Social Services, Emergency and Critical Care Nursing, Advanced Clinical Practice, Health Business Management and Erasmus Mundus Emergency and Critical Care programs.
The aims of the studies leading to the master’s degree are are to increase the students’ capability to apply the theory into practice, deepen her/his analytical and project leadership skills and skills in participating in research and developmental work. Social skills are also taken into consideration. The purpose of the final project is to develop and to show the ability to apply research knowledge into practice and to use chosen methods in the analysis of working life’s problems.
The aims of studies in the Health Care sector to provide the students with wide and profound knowledge in social and health care and theoretical knowledge needed in expert and leadership positions.
The graduate is able to solve challenges in social and health care operative level by developing course of actions and combining information from different fields. The graduate is able to work independently in expert positions or as an entrepreneur. In addition, she/he is able to assess the operation of individual people or groups and is able to gather her/his field’s information and practices and/or to take responsibility for other people’s professional development.
She/he is able to communicate well both orally and in a written form both with an audience that is familiar with the field and with an audience that is not. She/he is capable of demanding international communication and interaction with the second national language and at least with one foreign language.
Aim of the Advanced clinical practice programme is to provide preparedness for work in varying tasks of an expert in social and health care organizations. In addition the aim is to deepen and to develop his or her expertise in substance field and to create tools to develop nursing based on evidence based practice.

Highly experienced experts, leaders and researchers from the working life have contributed to the development of this core curriculum. Their names, titles and respective organisations may be accessed via the Finnish language pages of this core curriculum.
Objective of Master Degree Programme is to respond existent and long-range challenges in development and leadership in health care and social services. There is a great structural, strategic and operational process in organising health care and social services nationally and locally. In addition local organisation and services are restructured to respond clients needs better. Organisations should act more effective and cost-effective way. From the employees point of view essential factors are possibilities of autonomy, initiative and learning. Essentials factors in developing work communities are multiprofessional cooperation and skills in problem solving.
Rapid development of technology and forms of treatment bring out constantly new learning and developing challenges in work. In addition environmental and safety factors demands more planning and developing. There is a need to get experts which are able to lead and develop work units in strong, strategically and perseverance way.

The studies are intended for those who have completed a bachelor-level degree in Health Care and Social Services or an applicable university degree with at least three years' work experience in the field of study.
