Descriptions

The studies in the Degree Programme Health and Social Services, Elderly Care provide students with professional competence in developing, planning and coordinating care services for the elderly. Students learn to promote and strengthen the well-being, health, participation and functional capacity of the elderly. The education emphasises human ageing as a unique and individual stage of life. Elderly persons are seen as taking active roles in their lives and in society.

During the education, students acquire competence in developing services for the elderly in multiprofessional cooperation.

The extent of the degree programme is 210 ECTS. The studies consist of both theoretical and practical studies as well as elective studies and a final thesis. The extent of the final thesis is 15 credits, and the elective studies cover 10 credits. The degree programme comprises 75 credits of clinical practice in diverse elderly care settings. Practice is also carried out within theoretical studies. The theoretical knowledge and practical skills are tightly intertwined with different teaching methods and learning environments. The close integration of theory and practice prepares students to work and cooperate in multiprofessional contexts. Students learn to reflect on their own actions and emotions.

Development

Opetussuunnitelman valmistelutyö

Lukuvuoden 2011 – 2012 vanhustyön osaamispohjainen opetussuunnitelma perustuu syksyllä 2010 alkaneeseen aikuiskoulutusta varten tehtyyn opetussuunnitelmaan. Vuoden 2010-2011 opetussuunnitelma valmisteltiin laajassa yhteistyössä työelämän ja Hyvinvointi ja toimintakyky –klusterin muiden koulutusohjelmien kanssa. Vuoden 2011-2012 opetussuunnitelman valmistelussa koulutusohjelma on seurannut klusterin muiden koulutusohjelmien opetussuunnitelma työtä ja tehnyt vanhustyön opetussuunnitelmaan klusterin yhdessä sopimat muutokset yhteisten opintojen osalta (Geronomin ammatillisuus osaamisalueen Ammattikorkeakoulun yhteiset opinnot –opintokokonaisuuden opintojaksot: Tietotekniikan perusteet 3 op ja Asiantuntija – ja tutkimusviestiä 3 op sekä osaamisalueeseen Vanhustyön tutkimus-, kehittämis- ja innovaatiotoiminta opintokokonaisuuksien Tutkimus-, kehittämis- ja innovaatio toiminta ja Opinnäytetyö opintojaksot.) . Näiden lisäksi osaamisalueen Geronomin ammatillisuus opintokokonaisuuden Ammatillisen ja gerontologisen opintokokonaisuuden opintojakson Sosiaalinen ja psyykkinen vanheneminen 6 op nimi on muutettu opintojakson sisältöä paremmin kuvaamaksi: Vanheneminen 6 op.

Vuoden 2011-2012 opetussuunnitelmaa ei ole erikseen käsitelty vanhustyön neuvottelukunnassa, mutta neuvottelukuntaa on tiedotettu siihen tehtävistä tarkentavista muutoksista. Opetussuunnitelman toteutusta tullaan arvioimaan keräämällä palautetta sekä opiskelijoilta että työelämältä lukukausien ja -vuoden aikana. Palaute käsitellään neuvottelukunnassa ennen vuoden 2012-2013 opetussuunnitelmatyötä, minkä pohjalta sovitaan ja tehdään tarvittavia muutoksia ja tarkennuksia.

Opetussuunnitelman lähtökohdat

Vanhustyön opetussuunnitelma perustuu analyysiin vanhojen ihmisten ja vanhenemisen tulevaisuuden odotuksista ja tarpeista sekä siitä seuraavista vanhustyön ja –palvelujen tulevaisuuden muutoksista ja kehittämistavoitteista. Koulutusohjelmassa korostuu vanhustyön kokonaisvaltainen osaaminen, mutta samalla siinä tarkastellaan vanhenemista erityisesti pääkaupunkiseudulla ja kaupunkimaisessa ympäristössä sekä pääkaupunkiseudun vanhuspalvelujen muutoksia ja kehittymistarpeita.

Opetussuunnitelmassa on varauduttu pääkaupunkiseudun vanhuspalvelujen rakennemuutoksiin ja uusiin toiminta-alueisiin sekä niissä vaadittavaan vanhustyön osaamiseen (kotona asumisen tukeminen, yksiportainen palvelu- ja hoiva-asuminen, omaishoito, palveluohjaus, muistisairaiden hoito, vanhojen ihmisten mielenterveys- ja päihdeongelmat).

Opetussuunnitelma on valmistelu yhteistyössä työelämän kanssa. Jatkuva yhteistyö työelämän kanssa takaa opetuksen työelämälähtöisyyden. Opetusta (yksittäiset opintojaksot, hanketoiminta) toteutetaan yhteistyössä pääkaupunkiseudun vanhustyön toimijoiden kanssa. Opetuksen pedagogiset ratkaisut ja oppimistehtävät muodostuvat näin työelämän kehittämistarpeista.

Opetussuunnitelmassa painotetaan ja tuetaan opiskelijan ammatillisen kasvun kehittämistä. Geronomiopiskelijan kykyä kriittiseen ajatteluun ja arviointiin sekä ongelmanratkaisuun edistetään erilaisissa pedagogisessa ratkaisussa, oppimistehtävissä ja työelämäyhteistyössä. Monialainen oppiminen ja yhteistyö mahdollistuvat muiden koulutusohjelmien kanssa toteutuvissa opintokokonaisuuksissa, innovaatio-opinnoissa sekä hanke- ja projektitoiminnassa. Opiskelijoiden valinnaisuus opinnoissa toteutuu mm. työelämä- ja hankeyhteistyössä tapahtuvissa opinnoissa mahdollistuvissa yksilöllisissä opintopoluissa sekä vapaasti valittavissa opinnoissa. Opetussuunnitelmaan sisältyy yrittäjyysopintoja (oma opintojakso).

Geronomiopiskelijalla on mahdollisuus opiskeluaikanaan osallistua eri tavoin kansainväliseen toimintaan. Vaihto-ohjelmien puitteissa on mahdollista opiskella ulkomaisissa oppilaitoksissa sekä suorittaa siellä työelämäharjoittelu. Koulutusohjelmassa vierailee myös luennoitsijoita ulkomaisista yhteistyökorkeakouluista ja opiskelijat voivat osallistua kansainvälisiin hankkeisiin. Teoriaopintojen ja harjoittelun yhteydessä opiskelija perehtyy kotikansainvälistymiseen.
