Work Placement 1: Old People as ClientsLaajuus (8 ECTS)

Objective

Students recognise the old person’s phase of life as individual and unique. They are able to assess factors promoting the well-being, health, functional capacity, social participation, level of independence and coping at home of their clients. Students are able to form meaningful client relationships with the elderly and promote their functional capacity. Students become familiar with the major forms of elderly care in various care environments. They are adequately prepared for emergencies, attacks of illness or fire.

Content

Work placement takes place in day, service or rehabilitation centres. Client service and interaction with elderly clients. Supporting old persons and their needs for services. Group and individual guidance, for example health exercise. First Aid I and preventing injuries of the elderly. Fire safety and extinguishing fire at the initial stages. 1.5 cr. Self-assessment and portfolio.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students use the appropriate core concepts as well as make choices using the knowledge base of their own professional field. They recognise the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.

Students’ actions follow the rules and instructions given, and they use working methods appropriately and safely.

Students work according to the professional ethics of their own field, and they act responsibly as group members.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students analyse the relationships between appropriate core concepts as well as justify their choices using the knowledge base of their own professional field. They analyse the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.

Students act according to the rules and instructions given in their operating environment, and they use working methods appropriately and safely.

Students work according to the professional ethics of their own field, and they act flexibly as group members.
