Descriptions
Bachelors of Culture and Arts in Theatre and Performance Technology will have a wide scope of expertise in performance technology, being well aware of traditional performance technology and able of quickly learning new technologies and therefore meeting the challanges of new forms of performance. Graduates will also be familiar with work safety issues, be creative and innovative and have good leadership skills.
Structure and implementation of studies
Theatre and Performance Technology studies offer high technical expertise in light, stage and audio-visual technology. The main focus is on lighting and stage technology and AV technology and stage mechanics systems, technical applications, safety issues, knowledge of various performance structures, theatre knowledge, ability to work in a range of artistic work groups, and supervisor skills. Bachelors of Culture and Arts work in close cooperation with lighting and sound designers, set designers and directors.
As a multidisciplinary operating environment, Metropolia offers students an all-round and fitting domain in which to practice their skills. Theatre and Performance Technology studies included in a Bachelor of Culture and Arts degree are part of the Performing Arts degree programme, which also trains drama instructors. Drama instructor training, which has profiled itself in applied drama, supports the training of different forms of performance in a number of ways in theatre and performance technology training. Practical training is carried out in cooperation with professional theatres and other performing groups.
Theatre and Performance Technology graduates work in a variety of professional performance activities: theatre and opera houses, theatre groups, cultural establishments and community centres, in concert and festival organisations, international productions and design houses and sales organisations.

Development
Opetussuunnitelmaa on kehitetty tiiviissä yhteistyössä työelämän kanssa ja siinä on otettu huomioon työelämän tarpeet sekä opiskelijoiden tulevaisuuden työllistymismahdollisuudet. Esittävän taiteen koulutusohjelman neuvottelukunta on ollut myös työelämäedustajana mukana kehittämässä opetussuunnitelmaa.
Opintojaksojen toteutuksissa tehdään monipuolisesti työelämäyhteistyötä alan ammattilaisten kanssa erilaisissa projekteissa sekä vierailevien opettajien kautta. Erityisesti opintojen kaksi viimeistä vuotta keskittyvät pääsääntöisesti suoraan työelämässä tehtäviin projekteihin, harjoitteluihin ja opinnäytetöihin. Opetussuunnitelmaa kehitetään myös näin työelämän kanssa syntyneiden kokemusten avulla.
Myös koulutusohjelman nuoriso- ja aikuiskoulutettavien välillä tehdään tiivistä yhteistyötä. Suurin osa aikuiskoulutettavista on jo alan kentällä toimivia ammattilaisia, mitä kautta saadaan suoraa heijastuspintaa opetussuunnitelmien kehittämiseen.
Opetussuunnitelmassa on huomioitu erityisesti se, että koulutusta tarjotaan vuonna 2011 ensimmäistä kertaa myös nuorten koulutuksena.
Opetussuunnitelman laadinnassa on otettu huomioon osaamisperusteisten opetussuunnitelmien voimaan astuminen syksyllä 2012. Osaamisperusteisten opetussuunnitelmien laadintatyötä jatketaan vielä seuraavan lukuvuoden ajan ja muun muassa alan kriittisiä osaamisia kartoitetaan yhteistyössä työelämän, opiskelijoiden ja alan koulutuskentän kanssa.
