Applicants must have an applicable higher education degree, which are:
• Orthotist – Prosthetist
• Physiotherapist
• Geriatric Nurse
• Podiatrist
• Midwife
• Optometrist
• Osteopath
• Public Health Nurse
• Occupational Therapist
• Registered Nurse
• Bachelor of Social Services
Other Finnish higher education degree that are also qualified:
bachelors or masters in education, medicine, psychology, health sciences, health care or social sciences with diploma level education in one of the above mentioned social or health care professions.

Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning

Those applying to and enrolled in a higher education institution have the opportunity to apply for recognition of prior learning and previously acquired competencies, irrespective of where or how such competence was acquired. Prior learning corresponding to tertiary level expertise may be transferred as credits towards the degree. Students are responsible for substantiating the competencies that they have acquired. The relevant practices have been described in the Degree Regulations. The guidelines apply the principle of lifelong learning.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

Graduates from the Degree Programme in Rehabilitation are capable of acting in demanding rehabilitation development and management positions, which require the ability to anticipate, assess and improve knowledge within the rehabilitation field and reform practices innovatively and internationally.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading

Course assessment is continuous, formative and development-oriented. Successful completion of a course requires acceptable performance in its constituent parts in accordance with curricular and implementation plans. Assessment is based on the following grading scale: excellent (5), good (4–3), satisfactory (2–1) and fail (0). Some courses may also be assessed with a pass/fail mark. Assessment criteria are based on descriptions of competence. Students’ self-assessment is relevant to development of professional competence and it is carried out through compiling portfolios. Staff will also have personal discussions with each student about study and career choices and the student will then draw up his or her own individual learning plan based on these discussions.

Graduation requirements

A student is required to successfully complete the designated program of courses.

Mode of study

The scope of Masters’ degrees is 60 to 90 credits, depending on the scope of the preceding first-cycle (Bachelor’s) degree. The scope of the Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation is 90 credits. One credit is equivalent to 27 hours of a student’s work. The duration of the programme is 1.5 years, with 2 to 4 days of direct contact teaching per month every term.
Masters’ degrees comprise advanced professional studies, elective studies and a Master’s thesis. Studies are implemented as multi-form learning. Learning situations consist of seminars, on-line studies and learning assignments carried out individually and in teams, as well as expert presentations. Instruction methods include individual, group and peer instruction.
