Objective

Students utilise work methods promoting rehabilitation by supporting the active role of the old person in everyday functions. They are aware that rehabilitation includes not only individual practices but also influencing the environment of the elderly. Students are familiar with different means of using basic and local services, communal and home rehabilitation as well as peer support. Students know the most common means of support and assistive aids used in coping with everyday activities. They are able to assess their needs, initiate the process for obtaining these aids and consult experts in rehabilitation if necessary. Students recognise the possibilities of user-friendly gerotechnology in elderly care. They know how to guide old persons and their significant others on the use of assistive aids and gerotechnology. Students are also able to assess needs for the modification of home environment and initiate the modification process.

Content

Rehabilitation in everyday activities. Work methods promoting rehabilitation and their possibilities for reinforcing the resources of the elderly. Assistive aids and user-friendly gerotechnology in promoting old persons’ coping with everyday activities. Barrier-free and safe environment, factors promoting functional capacity and regulations guiding them. Planning and modification of home and functional environment. Practice 2 cr.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students master professional concepts, and they justify their choices using the comprehensive knowledge base, based on the client’s needs. Students assess systematically the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.

Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment as well as apply working methods appropriately and safely.

Students work according to professional ethics as well as commit themselves to the group, enhancing its functioning.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students master professional concepts and make choices together with the client using the comprehensive knowledge base. They also assess and develop their own functioning systematically.

Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment. They also apply working methods flexibly and safely.

Students work according to professional ethics considering the characteristics of various situations, and in their work they commit themselves to the code of professional conduct.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students master professional concepts and make choices together with the client using the comprehensive knowledge base, in changing environments. They also assess their own functioning and produce knowledge to develop their operating environment.

Students act independently and professionally and develop their working and operating environments together with other actors.

Students work according to professional ethics considering the characteristics of complex and unpredictable situations. Their work develops and renews professional procedures and practices.
