Descriptions

Degree Programme International Business and Logistics, 210 credits.
Bachelor of Business Administration BBA
Day-time Studies in English

International Business and Logistics degree programme is designed to prepare students for a career in international business where the knowledge and expertise of managing global supply chains and increased material and information flows is important.During the first two years of study this degree offers general and professional business administration studies integrated with supply chain management and logistics.

During the third year of study the following specialisations are offered covering both strategic and operations management areas; supply chain management and logistics, marketing, finance and human resource management.

ICT and data analytics skills, critical and innovative thinking and project management skills are developed throughout the programme. In the second year of studies all students undertake an Innovation Project that allows them to apply knowledge acquired previously in problem-solving projects.

Students are required to learn an additional language (French, German or Spanish for Finnish students, Finnish for non-natives). Sustainability and business ethics are key values passed on to the students during their studies. Students will be working in a very multicultural environment, as many who are registered on the programme as well as teaching staff come from around the world.

Students are offered various study exchange possibilities. Choosing the supply chain management and logistics specialisation offers the possibility of earning a double degree by studying at a specially selected partner university for one year 60 ECTS agreed with the partner university. This study path is limited in number of students and takes place during the 3rd year of study. Before double degree exchange students need to complete 120 ECTS of compulsory courses of Metropolia IBL curriuculum. This path requires the student to study additional 30 ECTS and in total 240 ECTS.

All students are required to complete a six-month work placement and Bachelor's Thesis in their final year of studies.

Graduates of this degree programme are expected to possess the following abilities:
- Supply chain and B2B relationship management skills
- Service orientation and sustainability awareness
- Operations management skills
- Intercultural adaptability in an international and cross-disciplinary context
- Strong grounding in general business knowledge and processes
- Keen awareness of global economic and business trends
- Critical, analytical thinking
- Effective communication and negotiation skills

A graduate of this degree programme can expect to be offered attractive work opportunities internationally. Alternatively, those wishing to continue their studies to Master’s level will be well prepared to do so.

Development

The BBA International Business and Logistics degree programme was launched in 2008. It has been designed and delivered in partnership with employers and other stakeholder groups, and an advisory board comprising employer representatives meets regularly to offer guidance on matters of strategic importance relating to curriculum content, course design and learning experiences. The whole academic staff is regularly involved in the curriculum development work.

Graduates from the programme remain involved in the life of the school as alumni and are consulted regarding curricular issues. They offer also guest lectures and work placement opportunities to current students and thereby continue their involvement in the development of the programme. The programme has a proud history of its students, whether as individuals or in teams, winning competitions organised by employers and trade associations.

This curriculum has been updated based on LXD18S1 Curriculum. There are no major changes. The 3rd year specialization packages are simplified and contain only three courses instead of four. Those courses which are no longer alternative courses in the 3rd year specialization packages are offered as electives. Added Syllabus for double degree study path.
