Objective

On completion of the course the student will
- understand map projections and map coordinate transformations
- know how a map is a user interface to spatial data
On completion of the course the student will be able to
- use and produce maps and map data

Content

Map coordinate systems and map projections; the theoretical basis of cartography and visual communication; spatial data modeling and its cartographic presentation; thematic mapping; planning a map user interface; internet and WEB requirements for map production

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is able to read a map. The student has basic knowledge of cartographic generalization. He or she knows the importance of coordinate systems and projections in the production of different kind of maps.
