Objective

Students are familiar with using their voices in performing popular songs of different styles. Students learn the meaning of phrasing and use of voice in different music styles in modern music production. Students are familiar with the basic vocabulary of singing technique and voice anatomy and communication with other singers in a professional manner. Students learn how to use microphones in different situations – live and in studio environment.

Content

Vocal sound and phrasing in different music styles – microphone techniques – vocal vocabulary – basics of vocal group singing – basic material of popular vocal music.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
• has participated in class
• understands voice production and singing-related anatomy
• has learned to use his/her voice to perform popular music in various styles
• understands the meaning of good phrasing and good vocal sound
• is competent with basic knowledge of lyric presentation and interpretation

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student:
• is familiar with the principles of singing into microphones
• is familiar with vocal equipment
• is capable of vocal phrasing appropriate to various styles

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student:
• is able to control his/her voice when using microphones in different situations and can control their singing when using audio equipment and headphones in the studio environment
• masters the technical and anatomical vocabulary of singing and is able to communicate with other singers in a professional manner

The student:
• has participated in class
• understands voice production and singing-related anatomy
• has learned to use his/her voice to perform popular music in various styles
• understands the meaning of good phrasing and good vocal sound
• is competent with basic knowledge of lyric presentation and interpretation
