Objective

The student shows a command of basic tonality and diatonic functions in common major key signatures through singing and writing.

Content

- Intervals 1-10
- Major scale modes
- Treble and bass clefs
- Melodies using diatonic major scales with up to 4 sharps or flats
- Major and minor pentatonic melodies
- Bass functions
- Two-voice melodic dictation (melody and bass function)
- Modulation to the subdominant and dominant keys
- Triads and seventh chords
- Major key chord progressions using triads and four-note chords

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
• has participated in lessons as agreed
• has carried out the agreed tasks
• is able to work independently
• can sing simple melodies in the major scale and the major/minor pentatonic scales in the most common keys in the bass and treble clefs
• can write simple major scale melodies, bass lines and harmony in the most common keys by ear using the bass and treble clefs
• has completed the oral and written exam satisfactorily

• is able to work independently
• can adeptly sing simple melodies in the major scale and the major/minor pentatonic scales in the most common keys in the bass and treble clefs
• can adeptly write simple major scale melodies, bass lines and harmony in the most common keys by ear using the bass and treble clefs
• has completed the oral and written exam well
