Band Leading 1Laajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

The student gains practical facilities for acting as the leader of a band on various levels in both rehearsals and performances, is able to select and prepare teaching material of the appropriate level, acquires an introduction to rehearsing a band on the I level and gains facilities for the Band Leading 2 course.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student:
• is able to lead a band as agreed
• has completed at least two exercises so that the supervising teacher has been able to observe and give feedback
• has kept a record of their coursework and returned a two-page essay on their band’s exercises, as well as their role as a band leader
• has completed five 45 minute group tuition sessions
• has participated in their band’s final concert arrangements as agreed

Further information

Band leading 1 course should coincide with the Band Pedagogy 1 course.
