Objective
Students promote old people’s living at home and care provided by families as well as old people’s coping with daily life. Students assess service needs of their clients, implement and develop functions related to family care and caring at home. Students assess the requirements for successful care at home and the significance of home care for old people in different life situations, their families and significant others. Students apply various services, means of support and methods related to family and home care when supporting the coping of old people, their families and significant others.
Content
Family care and home care as a phenomenon in different life situations. Aspects of family work and empowering family care and home care. Possibilities and means for supporting family care provided by legislation and services. Objectives and content as well as legislation and services of home care. Requisites and quality assessment of home care. Memory disorders and family care and home care. Enabling possibilities for old people and their families to participate in planning and implementation of services.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Students master professional concepts, and they justify their choices using the comprehensive knowledge base, based on the client’s needs. Students assess systematically the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.
Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment as well as apply working methods appropriately and safely.
Students work according to professional ethics as well as commit themselves to the group, enhancing its functioning.

Students master professional concepts and make choices together with the client using the comprehensive knowledge base. They also assess and develop their own functioning systematically.
Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment. They also apply working methods flexibly and safely.
Students work according to professional ethics considering the characteristics of various situations, and in their work they commit themselves to the code of professional conduct.
