Physiology and biochemistry of the eyeLaajuus (3 ECTS)
Course unit code: SO00AA33
General information
- Credits
- 3 ECTS
Objective
Students are able to describe the microscopic and macroscopic anatomy of the eye and its adjoining organs.
Students know how to describe and explain the basic functions of the eye and the mechanisms regulating them. They identify the underlying chemical mechanisms of biological processes and diseases.
Content
Eye socket, external muscles, circulatory system, innervation, eyelids, structure of the eye, secretion and structure of lachrymal fluid, optic nerve and nerve pathways
Function of the cornea, significance of lachrymal fluid, functioning principles of the retina and its cells, metabolism of lens, regulation mechanisms of intraocular pressure
