Objective

To be able to write research reports in English. To be able to process information into research report format. To produce good text for a final project or research report.

Content

Discourse of academic report writing. Discourse of the different elements of a graduate study. From research to text. Organizing thoughts into an outline. Strong paragraphs. Effective sentences. Paraphrasing. Referencing. Metatext. Special problems of Finns writing English.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student has achieved the course objectives on a satisfactory level. The student’s academic report writing skills are limited compared to the content of the course.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has achieved the course objectives on a good level, but some aspects of the student’s skills and knowledge still require further attention. The student’s academic report writing skills are good with regard to the content of the course.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has achieved the course objectives excellently. The student’s academic report writing skills are strong with regard to the content of the course.
