Objective
The objective is for students to achieve the competence required in genetics and molecular biology. Key application areas and methods of medical genetics have been taken into account in the course objectives and content. Students understand the structure and functions of the human genome and regulation of these functions, as well as the links of these factors to disease mechanisms. Students understand the theoretical foundations of genetics and molecular biology and know how to carry out key genetics and molecular biology studies.

Structure of the human genome.
Applications of research methods used in genetics and molecular biology, legislation relating to diagnostics and the research area, quality and correct working methods
Isolation, purification and amplification of nucleic acids; real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) systems; gel electrophoresis techniques; restriction endonuclease analysis; minisequencing, sequencing; hybridisations
