Descriptions

The Degree Programme in Occupational Therapy prepares students to work as qualified practitioners in promoting participation and well-being. The students understand the essence of multidisciplinary co-operation and collaboration with clients. Studies emphasising newest theories and evidence based practice prepare students plan and apply occupational therapy process to meet the occupational and health needs of clients. Students find new innovative ways to utilize therapeutic potential of occupations with individuals and groups. They are able to work with persons of all ages in the process of promoting participation in everyday life.

Studies of innovative project and practice-inspired research and development provide a professional culture, in which students, teachers and workforce representatives participate in development processes and decision-making in collaboration and in a responsible way. Practical and creative solutions are created as well as services to meet the multi-faceted needs of the residents of the Helsinki metropolitan area

The curriculum is based on the main competencies in area of occupational therapy: These competencies are Client-Centred Practice, Occupation, Environment, Conscious Use of Self, Occupational Therapy Process, Professional Know-How and Lifelong Development of Occupational Therapy. The curriculum is structured through dialogue between theory and practice. Work placements are implemented as part of very different courses in a wide variety of working environments. The curriculum complies with the international and national standards.
