History of Performing Arts 1Laajuus (3 ECTS)

Objective

Students know the main traits of the development of Western contemporary theatre and philosophy of performing arts from the beginning of 20th century to contemporary post-dramatic theatre. Students also have an understanding of the development and current trends of other forms of performing arts, such as opera, contemporary dance, performance arts.

Content

The course offers an introduction to modernism in the theatre and the possibilities of new forms of performance from the perspective of the history of performing arts and the different elements of a performance. The course includes a series of lectures as well as practical learning assignments.
