Objective

Students identify their professional interests and are able to acquire information from various resources. Students can describe and reference the phenomenon they are researching and they have the necessary skills for investigative writing. They are capable of giving encouraging peer assessment and analysing a text critically.

Content

In this workshop, students practice the method of investigative writing. They write an essay relating to the history or contemporary practices of performing arts, or questions of applied drama, and give a presentation on the results. Students are introduced to the methods of information search, progressive inquiry and use of references. Students also learn about the research methods needed in writing a Bachelor’s thesis or a a written report on their final project.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students

1) participate in classes and complete the assigned tasks to an acceptable standard

2) know how to acquire and discern information relating to performing arts and to present it orally and in writing

3) know some of the key principles of investigative writing and know how use references and data to support their texts. Students understand the significance of reflection in the investigative approach.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students

1) participate actively in classes and complete the assigned tasks and they are able to constuct an investigative approach of their own

2) can acquire, discern and critically evaluate information relating to performing arts

3) choose a question relating to performing arts and discuss it with a practice-led approach as well as in reference to various information sources. Student can develop their thinking and expression in investigative writing.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students

1) participate actively in classes and complete the assigned tasks commendably and demonstrate their command of the key principles of investigative writing in theory and practice

2) can acquire, discern and critically evaluate information relating to performing arts. Students recognize the ethical characteristics of practise-led inquiry

3) can narrow down and deepen the discussion on a question relating to performing arts and to integrate practice-led and theoretical material and information and descriptions based on their own reflection into their writing. Students are able to justify and describe their practical competence in various forms.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Completing the course with a pass grade requires that a student has met the objectives of the course as defined in the course implementation.
